Yamaha YAS-480 Intermediate Alto Saxophone

The Yamaha YAS-480 is an intermediate-level Eb alto saxophone designed for advancing students and developing musicians who want greater tonal control, comfortable playability and professional-inspired features. It combines Yamaha's precision engineering with an ergonomic key layout and carefully designed acoustic construction. Its bright, responsive tone and elegant gold-lacquered finish make it suitable for solo performances, concert bands, jazz ensembles and regular practice.

The YAS-480 features a specially designed 480-style neck that improves tone and response. Its redesigned neck receiver offers the flexibility to use the included 62-style neck or compatible Yamaha Custom Z and Custom EX necks, sold separately. The traditional 62-style body shape provides a brighter sound and lighter playing feel. Regular key posts reduce resistance, while the two-point contact mechanism supports enhanced projection and a free-blowing response.

For comfortable handling, the saxophone includes a left-hand seesaw key, a teardrop-shaped Front F key and an adjustable thumb hook. Its two-piece brass bell features hand-engraved decoration and a bell ring that supports vibration. Separate key guards with adjustable screw-cap stoppers provide professional-style adjustment options. The improved low B–C# connection helps ensure consistent key closure and clear response in the lower register. It comes with a Yamaha 4C mouthpiece and a semi-hard carrying case.
